How a quote breaks down

What you are actually paying for

There are three separate costs in any embroidered jacket order, and mixing them up is where most confusing quotes come from.

1. The jacket. The blank garment itself. Usually the biggest single line on the quote.
2. The artwork setup. A once off charge to convert your logo into a stitch file. You pay it once, ever.
3. The embroidery. A per jacket charge for each logo position, driven mostly by stitch count.

Get quotes that separate these three and you can compare suppliers properly. A quote that gives you one number per jacket and nothing else is hiding something.

Cost one

Artwork setup: €40, once off

Before an embroidery machine can stitch your logo, the artwork has to be digitised. A person maps your logo stitch by stitch, choosing stitch types, directions, densities and the order the machine works in. It is a skilled job and it is not automatic. A badly digitised file puckers, distorts and looks cheap no matter how good the machine is.

Our artwork setup fee is €40, charged once. After that the file is yours and it sits on our system permanently. Reorder in six months or six years and you will not pay it again.

Embroidery price by logo position

Guide prices for orders of 20 or more, correct as of 2026, excluding VAT. Smaller runs carry a higher rate per garment because setup time is spread across fewer pieces.

Why the back costs more

Because the machine is running for longer. That is the whole explanation.

You are paying for machine time, thread and the operator, so a design with four times the stitches costs more. This is also why two logos of the same physical size can be priced differently. A solid filled block of colour uses far more stitches than an outlined design of identical dimensions. If cost matters, send us the artwork early and we will tell you where the stitch count is going.

The jacket itself

A typical branded jacket, a softshell or a fleece of the kind most Irish companies put their staff in, costs around €40 plus VAT. That is the sweet spot where the garment is warm, windproof, showerproof and smart enough for a customer facing role, and it will survive a few winters.

You can go cheaper with a basic fleece or a lightweight shower jacket. You can go a good deal dearer with a waterproof three layer shell or a premium branded name. The €40 mark is where most corporate orders land.

Adding initials and names

Individual initials or a first name on the chest or sleeve is one of the cheapest upgrades in branded workwear, and one of the most effective. Staff take noticeably better care of a jacket with their own name on it, which quietly extends the life of the whole order.

It suits hospitality, healthcare, creches, engineering teams and anywhere a customer benefits from knowing who they are talking to. The cost is a small addition per jacket and we quote it with the order, since it depends on the length of the text and the thread colours used.

One practical note. Personalised garments cannot be reissued to a new starter, so most clients personalise the customer facing layer and keep a small buffer of unnamed jackets for new hires.

Kit planning

Matching the jackets to the rest of the kit

Most people who order embroidered jackets end up wanting the rest to match, and it is cheaper to plan that from the start. A typical staff kit looks like this:

• Jackets for outdoors, site visits and the car park run
• Polo shirts for the working day, embroidered chest crest
• Shirts for management and customer facing roles
• Caps or beanies for outdoor teams
• Hoodies or sweatshirts as a mid layer

The commercial advantage of ordering these together is that they share the same artwork setup. Your €40 covers the logo once and it carries across polos, shirts, caps and jackets, provided the logo is stitched at a similar size. A much larger version, a full back logo for example, has to be redigitised at that size and is treated as its own setup.

Ordering the kit as one job also means one delivery, one invoice, one approval round and a consistent thread colour across every garment. Thread lots do vary slightly between orders, so if exact colour matching across your kit matters, ordering together is the safest way to get it.

Why embroidery is the right call on a jacket

We run four decoration methods in house on Dock Road: embroidery, screen print, DTF and heat transfer digital print. On jackets, embroidery wins almost every time.

It looks better

A stitched logo has depth and texture. It reads as considered and permanent, which is exactly the impression a company jacket is supposed to make. A printed logo on a technical outer fabric tends to look flat and slightly temporary next to it.

It lasts

Jackets get worn hard, thrown in vans, snagged on scaffolding and washed a lot. Print on a softshell or a fleece will crack or lift eventually. Thread does not fade or peel, and a properly stitched crest will outlive the jacket it is on.

It suits the fabric

Softshell, fleece and polyester outers are exactly the substrates embroidery handles well. They are stable, they hoop cleanly and the finish sits flat.

The exception is a large, full colour, photographic or heavily detailed design. At 30,000 stitches an intricate logo becomes both expensive and heavy on the garment. In those cases we will usually recommend a digital print applied by heat transfer instead, and we will tell you that when we quote rather than after.

Worth knowing

A note on waterproof jackets

Embroidery involves a needle passing through the fabric thousands of times. On a fully taped, seam sealed waterproof jacket, that perforates the membrane at the logo position.

For most workwear this is a non issue. A chest crest on a showerproof softshell will not cause a problem you will ever notice. But if you are buying certified waterproof outerwear where the rating actually matters, tell us at quote stage. We can either use a backing suited to the fabric or apply the logo as a digital print by heat transfer instead, which leaves the membrane intact.

Practical

How to keep the cost down

• Order once, not five times. The artwork fee and the machine setup time are both spread across the order.
• Order 20 or more. That is where the per crest price steps down.
• Simplify the artwork. Solid fills and fine detail add stitches. Small changes can take a meaningful chunk out of the stitch count without anyone noticing.
• One logo position beats two. A chest crest alone does the job for most teams.
• Combine garments. Jackets, polos and caps in one order share the setup.
• Send artwork in vector. An AI, EPS or PDF file digitises cleanly. A low resolution JPEG pulled off a website costs time to rebuild.

Standard turnaround is 5 to 10 working days from artwork approval, depending on garment stock. We send a digital mockup showing logo size, position and thread colours before anything runs, and nothing goes on a machine until you sign it off.
